Summer 2017 GET Research/Internship Opportunities

 

University of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas’ College of Engineering established a summer research internship program for participants in various research interests where they will be allowed to join faculty members’ research group. Throughout the course of the program, participants are allowed numerous opportunities for cross-cultural teamwork and communication, personal and professional development, and unique insight into graduate education in American institutions.

Northwest Arkansas is one of the fastest growing areas in the US.  It is consistently ranked in the top 10 places to live (2016 US News top 3).  Due to the proximity of Walmart's corporate offices, 300 of the Fortune 500 companies have offices in our area.  This gives great opportunities for the GET participants to interact with local companies.  Depending on the home countries of the GET participants, specific companies will be invited for guest lectures, the Dinner and Dialogue events, site visits and potential employment opportunities in their home countries.

University of New Orleans

The University of New Orleans is excited to host the Air Quality Monitoring, Modeling, and Management (AQM3) GET Program.  Prepare to solve current and future air pollution problems facing the world and distinguish yourself as a leader. 

The AQM3 program provides participants with an understanding of the basic concepts involved in air pollution engineering and science, access to a variety of cutting edge air quality monitoring equipment, and experience working on air pollution challenges and management strategies through field visits to a variety of relevant industries.  Interact with distinguished speakers from local companies that share diverse experiences and perspectives in science, engineering, environmental policy and management.


Experience the historical and exciting city of New Orleans, Louisiana and take part in the famous French Quarter and the Jazz scenes while learning hands-on about the challenges facing the globe and how to help solve them!

The research and experiential learning program at the Illinois Institute of Technology provides participants with the opportunity to do cutting-edge research in professional labs with world class faculty members. Loyola University of Chicago

In today’s digital age, the value of an education in computer science keeps growing.  Join Loyola University Chicago’s Computer Science Research Program for GET to learn about the computer science research cycle for the software and hardware for programs we use across industries every day!

This program brings together participants from a variety of computer science-related academic programs to exchange their traditional course-based educational experiences with project-oriented research efforts. Participants will research and present a distinct project to peers and professionals, make site visits to local companies and organizations in the computer science industry, and participate in a weekly Computer Science Seminar program.

Participants will complete this program with leadership skills, experience working with teams, a distinguished knowledge of the computer science research cycle, and a unique experience in beautiful Chicago, Illinois, a major U.S. city with lots to see and offer!

University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Experience the practice of Lean Enterprise firsthand and become an expert in creating value through the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s Lean Enterprise Systems Spring GET Program!

Participants in this program will work with tenured university faculty to learn the technical knowledge of Lean and then work in teams with companies around the region to apply this knowledge and help solve challenges in a sustainable way for these companies.

The program is intended for participants in different disciplines of engineering and business who are interested in developing into leaders and standing out to future or current employers as tried and tested experts in creating value and solving problems for real companies.

New Jersey Institute of Technology

The NJIT GET Research Program provides opportunities for both undergraduates and graduates to work alongside tenured NJIT faculty on a variety of research projects in a range of disciplines.  This program provides a unique opportunity to use cutting-edge equipment in modern laboratories, work in partnership with professionals at the University, and join NJIT’s academic community

Ranging from theoretical projects (mathematical modeling of stem cells) to practical, hands-on experiences (tools and techniques to evaluate civil infrastructure), participants will receive personalized training from faculty and graduate student mentors. Participants will also join excursions to local points of interest, observe in learn during seminars, visit nearby major corporations, as well as prepare and deliver a final research presentation to industry leaders and peers.

Temple University

Temple University welcomes GET participants for research and internship opportunities in summer 2017 in the College of Engineering, the College of Science and Technology, or School of Medicine. 

Placements will consist of individual research projects that are supervised by a full-time faculty member. Programming will vary by department and faculty member but participants will be working in a supervised environment with the faculty member and research assistants. Participants will have the freedom to select the project that best fits their interests when they apply for the program.  The objective/goal of the program is to provide participants with an enriching research and educational experience and an opportunity to further their study in their field.

Located in the historic and culturally active Philadelphia, the 6th largest city in America, Temple is among the largest and most diverse universities in the nation.

University of Arizona

The University of Arizona Summer Program 2017, a Learning Research Experience, offers a ten-week intensive research, multicultural and, intercultural experience to junior, senior or graduate university students from countries all over the world.   

The participants will conduct research full-time under the tutelage of University of Arizona faculty mentors and participate in regular meetings, journal clubs, workshops and other academic activities their mentors consider important. Some summer participants may attend doctoral dissertation defenses and seminars as well as field trips and conferences sponsored by their faculty mentors.  Also, participants have been able to join their mentors in publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals in the U.S. Participants also attend workshops designed to teach them how to present their research orally, scientific writing in English and scientific poster design. The participants will attend an introductory workshop on entrepreneurship and startups in the United States, learn how to apply to graduate school in the U.S. (symposium), design a poster, and improve their oral skills in a professional setting.

At the end of the program, the participants present their research findings orally at a colloquium attended by their peers, faculty mentors and research teams (as well as representatives from their home institutions whenever possible), exhibit posters at the Graduate College’s Summer Research Conference attended by UA deans, faculty and coordinators of graduate programs, and write abstracts of their research for a publication sponsored by the Office of Global Initiatives in the University of Arizona (UA).
